The Most Essential Comfort: REIKI

by Sue Siebens

When I try to think about life without Reiki, I fail miserably. As a Reiki Master, Reiki is woven throughout my life. I give and get Reiki on a regular basis.

I practice Reiki professionally. My clients come in for reasons ranging from physical pain or emotional turmoil to work stress or as the first step of their vacation time–to leave work behind quickly.

I get Reiki when ever I give it, but I also belong to a Reiki Share group. This small group of Reiki practitioners gives Reiki support to each other on a regular basis and alerts each other in times of special need and attention.

I’ve been practicing Reiki for so long that it’s second nature for me to send Reiki when I pass by an accident on the road, or observe someone in stress while our shopping, or notice a limp or bandaged pain on a stranger. I send it with warmest non-interfering intentions, so as not to judge, control or dissuade their chosen path, only to lift and aid.

In March of this year, when Dallas County issued it’s stay-at-home orders due to Covid-19, what I missed most was the in-person Reiki. Yes, it can and did become distance Reiki. But being in the same physical space and giving someone Reiki is a special thing. The human touch has no replacement.

Reiki itself

Natural Touch Holistic Healing | Reiki
  • Relieves stress and anxiety
  • Promotes pain relief
  • Eases muscle tension
  • Strengthens the Immune system
  • Increases rates of recovery from injury
  • Energized and balances the whole body
  • Promotes deep relaxation
  • Brings peace to the mind and body

Reiki is the ultimate stress combatant!

Human touch

What are the health benefits of affective touch?
  • calms the cardiovascular stress, lowers blood pressure
  • activates the body’s vagus nerve
  • soothes pain
  • reduces cortisol (stress hormone), increases oxytocin (happiness/love hormone)
  • improves learning and decision making

How is this work not Essential!

Now it’s June 2020. No more stay-at-home, but the stress is far from lower. Peaceful protests are in the nations streets demanding much needed remodeling of how we treat each other. Even as I approve and support the changes afoot, change makes the ground excitingly unstable.

I need my REIKI to stay grounded and balanced so that I navigate all the shifts in my life with willingness and grace.

I need my REIKI to hold a compassionate supportive space for others. Some are excited about the changes to come. Some don’t want to be disappointed again. Some are frustrated because they still don’t get it.

In any case, I need my REIKI to remain the best human I can be.

Do you need Reiki too?

Healing at a Distance with Reiki

by Sue Siebens

We realize, usually in retrospect, that we give up the things we need most when we are stressed or in crisis. We contract into comfort foods and habits, ignoring disadvantages that may come with them.

In the grips of this pandemic, we are all looking for ways to soften our fear and angst.

Why not use DISTANCE REIKI?

When I started working with Reiki, years ago, no one had heard of it. But now, if I tell someone I’m a Reiki Master, they have at least heard of Reiki. They may not know what it is exactly. But they have heard of it.

Reiki practitioners start by learning to channel energy through their bodies and out their hands. They place their hands on themselves or someone else and let the energy pour out of their palms.  It feels like being touched by hand-sized heating pads.

During a session some clients feel tingling, pulsing It’s a nice gentle warm feeling that helps with relaxation, calm and joy. Some clients see colors. Some drift into a refreshing nap. It restores balance on all levels.

When Reiki practitioners receive their Second Level Training, they learn how to conduct distant treatments.  This means they don’t have to touch their clients to have the same effects as an in-person Reiki treatment. They can hover their hands a few inches above the body, beam the energy from across the room or send a session to someone across the planet.

How does that work? It turns out that Reiki can flow at any time or distance. No distance is too far. Because Energy is Energy.

Think about cell phones—they don’t have to be physically connected to work. They use radio frequencies, a form of electromagnetic energy, to connect to cell towers. I can’t pretend to understand the details of how it works; for me, it just does–using a form of energy.

Reiki is Universal Life Force Energy and works by supplying the recipient’s body-mind-spirit what it needs. Touch is not required.

Sometimes called “remote healing”, distance Reiki sessions are conducted much like an in-person session. The client is asked what is happening in their life and what they want to work on. To start the Reiki treatment, they are asked to formally state their “Intention and Release” to fix their session goals. Then they relax in a comfortable chair, sofa or bed. And listen to some calming instrumental music if they choose.

The experience of receiving a distance Reiki session varies depending on the sensitivity of the recipient. But exactly like in-person sessions, they will feel calmer, more at peace, optimistic and balanced when the session is complete.  Their physical healing is enhanced, and their sense of well-being is strengthened.

And, by the way, Reiki is a great immune system booster.  Something that we all need these days—by the truckload!

Replace your bad habits with a distance Reiki session.

Emotional Detox – Everyone needs it

By Sue Siebens

Most of us don’t openly talk about our emotions. and if we do, it’s only the big stuff and it’s only if it’s causing disruption in our life.

But what if we could acknowledge that the daily disruptions and discomforts that are expressed as emotions are just as important as any body pain we sense? What if self-care, like brushing our teeth or exercising our bodies included taking care of our emotions?

Researchers find, over and over again, that chronic and acute stresses in our lives contribute to greater incidences of depression, anxiety, irritability, sadness, regret, chronic dissatisfaction, anger, envy, fear, shame, frustration, and compulsive behaviors and addictions. Our stressors trigger emotions, large and small, to erupt in our lives.

Imagine for a moment all the time and energy we spend feeling, coping, trying to process and controlling our emotions. It literally robs us of hours and hours…that we will never get back. They also distract us from the many other behavioral choices available to us and come back when triggered again.

ENOUGH! There is a better way to go.

Recently a person shared that as the result of reading a CaringBridge journal, recounting a succession of health crises, surgeries and amputations, she was so sad for the person that she wept for over an hour. She was moved by the person’s struggles. And rightly so! But what actual good did the hour of crying do? Future reading of that continuing story will likely cause more tears.

If she would resolve the emotion that is causing her sorrow, she could use her empathetic reaction in a number of beneficial ways. She could relieve their isolation by a visit with them in-person or by phone. If they are still in the hospital, bring them an “outside” snack or treat that fits in their meal regimen. If they are home, bring them a home cooked meal or their favorite take-out. Drive them to appointments, shopping, or accompany them to a movie when they are able. There a ton of options to choose from when emotions are not in your way.

If you name an adverse emotional response, I bet I could come up with 3-5 gentle and beneficial responses that are more soul satisfying.

Now think about waking up in the morning… how many small emotions do we navigate as we turn off the alarm and roll out of bed. So many little blips, sometimes too small to label. “Ugh – is that alarm really going off already – I could really use just a couple more minutes [disappointment], I better get up and get my exercise/meditation done [control/fear of consequences], OMG – I need to dress for a big meeting today with a new client [anxiety], Did my kid get their homework/project done? I may need to help them pull things together [frustrated overload], crap I forgot to get cereal–ok smoothies for breakfast [dismay], etc” and your feet haven’t even hit the ground yet!

Emotional Detox

We need to release the toxic emotions that keep us bound up in order to get to the gentle and beneficial actions and behaviors that enrich our life.

First we need to accept that working with emotions is a normal and necessary thing to do. We are HUMAN. We have emotions. It comes with the territory.

As humans, our bodies have a natural and innate ability to resolve emotions. When we have an unpleasant emotion, it just means that at some point in our life, we had a high stress event that overcame the body’s ability and the emotion was embedded in the body.

Emotional Resolution, EmRes, uses active awareness to engage the body’s innate ability to permanently resolve the uncomfortable emotion. We don’t have to understand the origin of the pain or learn coping skills to control or avoid the triggers. We just become aware of the physical sensations of our emotional pain and our body does the rest.

During EmRes sessions, the client is fully conscious, lucid and in control of themselves. A real emotional event is recalled, but not triggered. Personal details need not be shared. It is a quiet, gentle and permanent release of the emotion related to a natural situation.

After the brain and body has reintegrated the embedded emotion, the same trigger will have no “charge”. The trigger will not produce the emotion.

We are naturally wired to do this work.

Are you ready to be rid of your toxic emotions?

The Path to Happiness and Contentment

By Sue Siebens

I’m a guest blogger on the Emotional Health Institute website 🙂 and this blog is one I posted there.

The Hygiene of Life: Our Pathway to Happiness

To live a balanced life…that is a life of health, success, and happiness, we must think in terms of the full integration of the 6 dimensions of our personal life: our physical, social, emotional, intellectual/mental, occupational/financial and spiritual.

For the most part, we understand what it means to take care of ourselves in each area (Read More)

What is your Emotional Temperature?

By Sue Siebens

How do you feel when you wake up in the morning?

By noon what is your mood?

When your work day is done, what emotions are swirling?

Do you drop off to sleep gently? Is your sleep restful?

A large part of having good emotional intelligence is the capability to recognize our own emotions, identify the different feelings and use this information to guide thinking and behavior, to manage our reactions and adapt to the situations we find ourselves in.

But, most of wander around in a blur of feelings that we don’t know how to control or where they came from apart from the immediate event. And often, our most distressing times are over-the-top responses, soaring much larger than the current reason calls for. And these events repeat with a disheartening frequency, even if the exact cause is “different”.

It can be overwhelming and frustrating.  How do we get past it? When is our breakthrough?

EmRes – Emotional Resolution is a natural process that we are born with.  Sometimes the resolution process gets interrupted and the emotions that are active or in-flight do not get metabolized.  When the same emotion is triggered at a later time, even years later, the original unresolved emotions will activate and flood the current situation, prompting reactions and drama that are in excess.

Good new! We don’t have to know anything about the event or trauma that caused the original block.

In an EmRes session, a current troublesome situation is relived by describing the current situation and briefly telling the story enough to get the event firmly in mind.  Then the lymbic system in the brain is activated to completely digest the emotion(s) that were flaring.  Once emotion’s physical sensation blueprint is gone, the emotional block is expired as well.

Once complete, future emotional situations of a similar nature will not cause the “resolved” emotion to swirl into another emotional storm. In fact, each individual emotional resolution will quell most or all situations that have a similar emotional root.  In other words, an EmRes session for anxiety using one situation can resolve the unnatural anxiety felt in many, if not all, of your situations.

EmRes is new to the US. Almost no one has heard about it. But, the response of people that have tried EmRes is almost universally positive. They(we) are amazed at how transformative the EmRes process can be.

People stuck in the grips of grief, fear, anger and frustration have found their breakthrough. Lives have been changed for the better.

It can happen for you too!
